KENNY Jackett has reacted coolly to a national newspaper story which claimed Millwall are lining up a summer swoop for MK Dons midfielder Peter Leven.

The Daily Mirror suggested a deal was on the cards earlier this week but the Lions boss denied any approach had been made for the player.

He told News Shopper: “The summer is not something I’ve discussed in terms of bringing people in. We are going to focus on our games and our promotion push first, see which division we are in and then start to plan after that.

“We’ve been working hard dealing with our own players who were out of contract, so I’ve made no approaches to other clubs for any players yet.”

The Lions entertain Leyton Orient on Saturday and Jackett will be looking for an instant response to last Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield.

Despite the setback, Millwall remain only one point behind second-placed Leeds and the manager knows there is still everything to play for with three games to play.

But Jackett is also aware Leyton Orient have worries of their own at the other end of the table and the east Londoners will be going all out to assure their League One status.

He said: “Leyton Orient have had an upturn in results since the new manager has gone in.

“They are fighting very hard to keep the points which are going to keep them up in this division.

“I’ve read quotes from different people there where they feel they need one or maybe two more wins to secure it.

“They’ve had two excellent wins in recent games, one against Norwich and the other against Stockport.”

Millwall have been hit by a series of recent injuries to key players just as the season reaches its climax, a headache the boss could have done without.

Tony Craig initially thought he would miss the rest of the campaign after picking up an injury at Huddersfield.

However, the problem isn't as serious as first thought and he may return in a fortnight.

The defender will still miss Saturday's game with Leyton Orient but Jackett believes his side can cope in his absence.

He said: “Tony Craig has been a key player in my time at Millwall and is a player I rate very highly.

“But it is never ever about one player and you have to overcome injuries.

“I’m confident we can overcome Tony’s injury within the squad we’ve got.”

On other injury news, he added: “Liam Trotter and Shaun Batt are both 50-50 for the weekend but we will see how they are over the next 48 hours.

“If they don’t make the Leyton Orient game, I’m confident they will be available for the Tranmere game.

“Liam has been a good player in his loan spell so far but I thought Marc Laird had a good game at Huddersfield and was unlucky not to score.

“Andy Frampton Alan Dunne should both be back, while Gary Alexander played an hour in the reserves and scored.

“Lewis Grabban will be in the squad because he gives us competition and cover in the wide areas where we don’t necessarily have a lot after Chris Hackett and Danny Schofield.”
