EVERTON have completed the signing of Crystal Palace hitman Andy Johnson for £8.6m.

It is a club record for the Toffees after the £6m they spent on James Beattie.

After passing a medical test yesterday Johnson told Everton's website: "Hopefully I can score goals.

"I'm looking forward to giving 110 per cent in every game I play."

Johnson, who is on World Cup stand-by, is expected to be Everton's highest-paid player having agreed a four-year deal worth £40,000 a week.

Johnson had been target of transfer wranglings in recent weeks with Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers tabling bids.

However, Johnson had his heart set on Merseyside.

He said: "I find the prospect of playing for one of the biggest names in British football impossible to resist.

"I believe Everton will afford me the best opportunity to fulfil my twin ambitions of winning major honours and representing England again at senior level."

He added: "I would like to thank both Wigan and Bolton, firstly for having sufficient faith in my abilities to lodge a bid and secondly for being so courteous and professional during the course of our negotiations."
