THE DEBUT display of Darren Bent for England last Wednesday night was praised by his managers for both club and country. The striker started as England beat Uruguay 2-1 at Anfield, but found life difficult with little service and an extremely deep visiting defence. Sven Goran Eriksson said: "Especially in the second half he showed some nice movement. He was a bit unlucky and another time might have scored a goal. For me he was very interesting." Curbishley added: "It was a tough old game and I thought he did what he could with the service he got."

IT wasn't just Darren Bent in international friendly action last midweek. Jonathan Spector was an unused substitute as United States beat Poland 1-0 in Germany, Thomas Myhre's Norway lost 2-1 to Senegal in Dakar, while Radostin Kishishev featured as Bulgaria beat Macedonia 1-0 in Skopje. The day before, Trinidad and Tobago beat Hermann Hreidarsson's Iceland 2-0 at Loftus Road.
