VCD Athletic FC have organised a fantastic evening of entertainment for March 27th with two local legends in Theo Foley and Derek ‘Killer’ Hales.

The evening will consist of entertainment, food and a question and answer session with Theo and Derek.

Theo played for the legendary Dublin stable club Home Farm before appearing in all four divisions of the football league signing for Burnley, Exeter, Northampton and Charlton Athletic.

Theo also played played for his country Eire in the 60's appearing in the 1966 World Cup qualifiers before then going on to become player-coach and then Manager of Charlton Athletic at the end of his playing days.

It was at the Valley where he signed the holy trinity of Derek Hales, Mike Flanagan and Colin Powell plucking them all from obscurity to become Valley Legends pocketing the club £1m profit in transfer fees for the players.

Theo went on to have a hugely successful coaching and management career with Millwall (Assistant Manager twice), QPR, Arsenal (Assistant Manager), Northampton Town (manager), Southend (Assistant Manager), Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur before completing scouting duties for Leeds, Sunderland and Wolves.

The highlight of Theo’s career included the best finish to a championship season ever as part of the management team with George Graham at Highbury that won the league with the last kick of the season at Anfield thanks to a Michael Thomas goal in 1989 to make the score 2-0 (the North London side had to win by two clear goals).

Theo now works at Charlton Athletic on matchdays in the corporate hospitality suites and when not working, he is always seen at Oakwood watching his son Paul’s exciting side compete in the Ryman North!

Derek is an Addicks’ legend who became a firm favourite at the Valley with his goals and character that are still revered to this day.

Derek’s image has been immortalised on many a Charlton t-shirt as he has been elevated to cult status among fans young and old.

Derek started his career at neighbours Dartford FC before Luton Town signed him for £2,000 but Theo Foley snapped him up only a year later for £4,000 where he went on to score 168 goals in 368 games earning himself the nickname ‘Killer’ for his predatory instincts in front of goal.

In between two spells at Charlton he also played top flight football for Derby County and West Ham whom he supported as a boy.

He finished his career playing for Gillingham FC scoring 9 times in 31 games. Derek then went into teaching and also became a landlord of his local pub.

He is now seen at the Valley on matchdays in the corporate hospitality suites where he holds court with his stories of yesteryear!

Derek once famously had a fight with one of his own team-mates, Mike Flanagan, which earned him a red card and simply added to his cult status among Addicks fans!

Other stories that exist around Derek include the time he took a set piece at the Valley by the stands, stopping to have a quick puff on a fan's cigarette before taking the free kick!

Tickets are priced at £15 each and are available in the VCD clubhouse upon request (Tel no 01322 524262) but it should be noted there are only a limited number left now.
