CHARLTON manager Phil Parkinson has welcomed the return of Peter Varney to The Valley – and hopes the former chief executive can generate some much-needed money to spend in January.
Varney agreed to become a non-executive director last week and is expected to be kept busy searching for new investment in the Addicks.
Parkinson will be hoping more than most Varney is successful in his mission, especially if it means the manager can wheel and deal when the transfer window opens at the start of 2010.
He said: “From our point of view at the training ground it is a real bonus to have Peter back.
“I think everybody knows in the club what an influential figure Peter has been over the years and we are pleased to have him back and I look forward to working with him.
“It would be nice to be in a position to have some money to spend.
“We are working extremely hard here but it would be nice come January to give everybody a boost and add two or three new faces, which will help everybody.”
