Johnnie Jackson wants AFC Wimbledon to use win at Bromley as ‘benchmark’

Goals in either half from Jayden Stockley and Myles Hippolyte were enough for the Dons to seal a deserved three points.

Jackson said: “That was a very positive performance, we broke a lot of ground with that performance.

“It’s now three clean sheets in five games which highlights how hard we work defensively.

“We ticked a few important boxes tonight. Two goals in a game for the first time, a first away win this season and to do so in a big south London derby.

“There was a lot to like about the performance, I’m pleased with how hard we worked to defend our 18-yard box but the key is for that to be the benchmark for the season. We shouldn’t be accepting anything less than that now.”

The Dons took the lead with their first meaningful effort on goal as James Tilley’s teasing cross was headed powerfully into the net by Stockley.

The Dons sealed the win on 67 minutes when Hippolyte broke away to finish the match off.

Bromley manager Andy Woodman said: “To be fair we were the masters of our downfall tonight, we spoke about stopping the cross at the source but we made the mistake and gave away a free header.

“We put ourselves into a hole and it meant we had to chase the game. We just weren’t good enough.

“We must be better in the final third, have more quality up there and put more pressure on the opposition. They didn’t have loads of shots in the game but then neither did we but we didn’t deserve to get anything because we have to get clean sheets.

“I’ve told the lads we need to grow up quickly and stop looking for excuses, it’s unacceptable.

“Yes we had some injuries which disrupted momentum but that isn’t an excuse either, we have a squad for a reason and none of this gets sorted without us grafting hard on the training ground.”
