Bromley 2-1 Shrewsbury Town

Andy Woodman’s team started slowly, though, and John Marquis hooked over for the visitors. In their next attack, in the sixth minute, they went ahead. Tom Anderson played it forward to Bradley Ihionvien and he turned Marcus Ifill on the half way line, held him off. and shot under goalkeeper Grant Smith and into the net.

Mitch Pinnock then delivered a corner for the Ravens that came off a Shrewsbury defender and Matthew Cox flew himself across the penalty area to make a stunning save. Omar Sowunmi headed wide for the hosts before the Shrews came close to adding a second goal. Ismeal Kabia slipped it through to Iwan Morgan and Grant was out quickly to block his low shot.

Marquis thought that he had made it two-nil when a long throw was knocked down to him and he prodded it home but he was clearly offside then Bromley had a chance when a quick break and cross by Pinnock was knocked out as far as Ashley Charles who drilled his shot wide.

Seven minutes before half time, the Ravens equalised. Pinnock’s corner was headed forward by Will Hondermarck and Ifill flicked it over Cox and into the net.

In first half stoppage time Sowumi headed over from another Pinnock corner.

While some spectators were taking their seats after returning from their half time refreshments, Bromley went ahead. Pinnock was dragged to the ground by Kevin Berkoe earning the Shrewsbury defender a yellow card. When the free kick was taken, Shrewsbury were unable to get it away and Kyle Cameron was on hand to force it home via a slight deflection.

Once they had gone ahead, Bromley were happy to control the game allowing their visitors possession in their final third and picking them off when they tried to force it. They looked like they had added a third when Pinnock broke away and two defenders converged. They crashed into each other and Pinnock squared for Ifill to tuck away. The referee felt that Pinnock had fouled one or both of the defenders and did not allow the goal to stand.

Damola Ajayi floated a shot over for the Ravens but they didn’t threaten again until the final ten minutes. Another Pinnock free kick picked out Sowunmi and his header found Cameron who nodded into the arms of Cox.

Shrewsbury substitute Isaac England had a shot from the edge of the area with the outside of his boot and Smith got down to save but they didn’t trouble Bromley again and the hosts saw out the remainder of the game without further fuss.

Bromley are now seven points clear of MK Dons with four games remaining and they travel to Milton Keynes on Saturday with the chance to all but claim the title there.
