Having secured league safety three days earlier, Welling United entertained Hampton and Richmond Borough with the opportunity to play with freedom.

As a result, Warren Feeney gave Sam Bayford and Abel Vendrells-Parcerisa league debuts whilst surprising many by playing Antony Papadopoulos at right back with Sam Cox partnering Manny Parry at centre back.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the early stages although Welling goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle had to be alert to save Daniel Rowe’s low free kick. Endurance Johnson then made a diving save from Bayford’s shot before Vendrells-Parcerisa whipped in a cross that demanded a finish but nobody could oblige.

Kyrell Lisbie had a shot blocked out as far as Bayford and his follow up was deflected past the post. Cameron Andrews then hit a first time effort wide and Vendrells-Parcerisa fired over as the Wings finished the half on top.

Early in the second period Johnson lost control outside the area and it came out to Bayford whose first time chip came back out off the post before Welling went ahead. A short corner caught Hampton sleeping and Chi Ezennolim picked out Lisbie who headed home at the far post.

Tom Mumford was then introduced for his league debut as Welling continued to press. He showed what he had to offer when his superb long pass found Cameron Andrews whose chip drew an excellent save out of Johnson.

Under fifteen minutes remained when Welling scored their second. Lisbie was brought down just inside the penalty area and Dan Nkrumah fired home from the spot.

Cox was then adjudged to have fouled Adrian Clifton in the penalty area at the other end but McKenzie-Lyle was in no mood to give up his clean sheet and went the right way to save from Ruaridh Donaldson.

Luis Fernandez headed wide for the Beavers before Welling added a third with five minutes remaining. Substitute Christie Pattisson burst down the right wing and belted a shot that Johnson blocked. However, it fell to Lisbie and he blasted home his second of the night.

Taylor Maloney made his return from injury and almost added a fourth before Alfy Whittingham had a late opportunity for the visitors but he shot over.

On Saturday, Welling finish their campaign when visiting Havant and Waterlooville.
