NEIL Warnock has told News Shopper he is confident of making another new signing for Crystal Palace following this morning's swoop for Paddy McCarthy.

The Eagles boss is due to have discussions with his target this afternoon and added he wouldn't be the last to arrive at Selhurst Park.

Austrian defender Johnny Ertl, who has been strongly linked with a switch to Palace from Austria Wien, is the most likely candidate but the manager remained tight lipped on who the mystery man was.

Warnock said: "I'm going to meet the player now and I'm hopeful we will have it all tied up by next week.

"There will be more to come as well because ideally I'm looking to bring in four or five.

"A lot of it will depend on who goes out as well, so we will have to wait and see."

Warnock is delighted to have McCarthy on board and revealed the deal was instigated at Alan Pardew's suggestion.

He explained: "Alan told me a few weeks ago he was talking to Mark Hudson and he wanted to make a number of changes to his own squad. I asked if he had anyone in mind hoping he would mention McCarthy and he did.

"I've made four or five attempts to sign him in his career before so it is brilliant to finally get him."
