Honours were even when Welling United entertained Chippenham Town in the Vanarama National League South.

James Dunne and Stefan Payne returned from suspension but Wings manager Warren Feeney was still without the injured Taylor Maloney and Taylor Curran.

There were injury problems for the visitors and they had to make a change after just five minutes with Aaron Simpson replacing Will King at left back. Soon after, Welling had their first opportunity. The Chippenham defence was unable to clear and it fell to Payne to let fly. Will Henry got across but didn’t look comfortable as he scrambled it around the post.

Henry made a more orthodox save when keeping out Ade Azeez’s shot at the near post before Payne was inches away from putting the Wings ahead when his shot came back out having struck the base of the upright.

It was not all one way football though, and Chippenham put together a good move to create a chance for Craig Fasanmade but Myles Roberts was well placed to turn his shot around the near post.

Azeez controlled well, then laid it off to Medy Elito. He looked up and laid it back to James Dunne but his radar was off and he arrowed it wide of the far post. George Alexander then collected Chi Ezennolim’s pass down the line and did well to send Azeez away but Simpson got back and made a well timed tackle to thwart the Welling striker.

Owen Windsor had the last goal attempt of the half with a shot from a tight angle that was saved comfortably by Roberts.

Early in the second period, Payne felt that he had grounds for a penalty when nudged in the back by Spencer Hamiltion as he was preparing to head an Amadou Kassarate cross but his appeals fell on deaf ears. Roberts thensaved a well executed Luke Russe volley at the other end.

Just after the hour mark, the visitors went ahead. The Bluebirds played it out from the back and a raking pass found Windsor on the right wing. He cut in and his shot from twenty-five yards was not held by Roberts. Alex Bray was quickest to react and he bundled it home.

There were just twelve minures reamaining when Welling levelled. Ezennolim clipped a superb cross to the far post and Kodi Lyons-Foster arrived late to finish with a close range controlled side foot volley.

Although both teams looked for a winner, there was only a Dunne shot that flew well over in injury time that could be registered as a goal attempt.
