PALACE boss Patrick Vieira believes fans and players are looking forward to their rival match against Brighton.

The French manager and his team will travel to the south coast to take on Brighton tomorrow evening.

A win for Palace will see them close the gap on their rivals to just one point.

Vieira is excited about the occasion but is still wary of Brighton after their last-minute equaliser at Selhurst Park in the reverse fixture.

He told the media: “I think this is the kind of game that players and fans are excited and looking forward to it.

“The last game that we played at home and the last-minute equaliser is still in our mind, you know we will go there with the same ideas of playing and try to give ourselves the best chance of a positive result.”

Last time out Palace put in a solid performance but were undone by a last gasp neal Maupay lob which cancelled out Wilfried Zaha's earlier penalty.

Vieira said: “I think we played on the front foot and tried to dominate the possession even if we know that is going to be challenging as we know Brighton is a team that like to have the ball as well.

“So it is going to be a challenging game for us but we will be ready for it and it is an exciting game for us and we are looking forward to it.

Palace are currently behind Brighton in the Premier League table and have not finished behind them for quite some time, but Vieira is focusing on finishing as above as many teams as possible regardless of who they are.

Vieira said: “There is no target to finish above any particular teams, we know where we are, we know what we want to do is to challenge and finish as high as we can.

“We can’t think about finishing above this team or that team, we want to be competitive every week and there going into the second phase of the Premier League it is important for us to improve on those details that will help us to improve our record away from home.”
