It was a tough afternoon for Welling United when they visited Ebbsfleet United.

For the second time this season, their supporters had to suffer the disappointment of seeing them lose six-nil to local rivals. Manager Peter Taylor was an observer first time round but it was his team that were brushed aside at Stonebridge Road.

There was less than a minute on the clock when the hosts went ahead. Welling thought that they might have got away with it when Dominic Poleon’s shot came back off the post but they failed to clear and Craig Tanner blasted home.

In the tenth minute, Ebbsfleet made it two-nil when Tanner turned provider for Rakish Bingham and he gave Jack Sims no chance with a composed finish.

Poleon was twice thwarted, first when Sims came out quickly to save and then when his shot was deflected wide before Ebbsfleet made three. Tobi Adebayo-Rowling had a shot blocked and it fell kindly for Bingham and he finished clinically.

Bradley Stevenson took advantage of some sloppy Ebbsfleet passing at the back but his low shot was saved by Chris Haigh before the hosts broke Welling down twice more before the break.

Tanner slid home his second to make it four, then Alfie Egan made it five with a brilliant shot that went in off the far post.

Haigh made the last save of the half with a full length dive to keep out Kristian Campbell’s free kick.

At the break, Taylor made a double change and adapted his system but the Fleet continued to create openings. Sims made a fine save and Adebayo-Rowling thought that he had scored from the rebound but his joy was short lived when he realised that he was offside.

After Tanner had a shot deflected wide, Sido Jombati hit the post and Kreshnic Krasniqi headed over. Bingham, like Tanner, also missed a chance to complete his hat-trick when side-footing well wide.

Both of the strikers were then substituted but Greg Cundle twice came close before former Wings striker Elliott Romain shot home from the edge of the area with one minute remaining,
