ALAN Pardew said he could understand the fans' frustrations after seeing their side beaten for the fifth time at home this season.

The Addicks' promotion hopes were dented after they were beaten 2-1 by Colchester at the Valley on New Year's Day.

Kevin Lisbie returned to SE7 for the first time since his summer switch to Layer Road and put the visitors in front from the penalty spot after Patrick McCarthy upended him in the box.

A stunning finish from Lisbie on 29 minutes doubled his side's advantage and even though Luke Varney reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time, Charlton were unable to rescue the game.

Pardew and his players were booed off following the defeat and the manager sympathised with the feelings of the club's followers.

He said: "Most of our best performances have been on the road this year and our fans have become frustrated with us and rightly so.

"We're at the halfway point in the season and it's shown that we're not good enough, so we'll have to make a change."
