They came from behind to win 4-1 at home to Leicester City and respond to Aston Villa’s earlier success over Crystal Palace.
The Foxes had Caglar Soyuncu sent off for kicking Callum Wilson immediately after Dominic Solanke put the Cherries 2-1 ahead.
Leicester looked in total command at half-time, having gone ahead through Jamie Vardy in the 23rd minute.
Junior Stanislas equalised from the penalty spot after Callum Wilson was dragged down by Wilfred Ndidi following a dreadful goal-kick from Schmeichel.
