Gordon Greer is keeping an eye on Albion's young Bundesliga prospects.

The former Seagulls captain is helping monitor players who are out on loan as part of a new scouting role at the club.

That includes St Pauli duo Viktor Gyokeres and Leo Ostigard, who are already back in action in the German second tier.

Greer is the latest former Albion favourite to have a role off the pitch as the club develop what they describe as a boot-room culture.

Asked about his interest in the German league restart, Greer said: “I have been watching because I help with the loan players.

“We have got two players on loan at St Pauli.

“They had a game on Sunday so I watch their games.

“That’s my German team because the two lads are on loan. I’ve got a vested interest!”

Gyokeres chases an eighth league goal of the campaign today as St Pauli host high-flying Heidenheim.

Greer’s fellow defender Ostigard has been rated St Pauli’s best player this season but misses out today through suspension after picking up a fifth booking of the season.

Speaking during a fans’ question and answer session at brightonandhovealbion.com about his return to the Seagulls, Greer said: “I think the club like having ex-players there because we know the club inside out.

“Also it is great for us because we know the club and the staff and we know what it means to everybody.”

Albion have also been keen to get their former striker Bobby Zamora back on board.

Zamora recently revealed he fancied a “dabble” in specialist coaching for strikers on a part-time basis.

He already has a role in hospitality and has also hosted a Q&A session for young players at the club.

German clubs are in the middle of a period of three games in eight days which will be watched keenly by observers in the Premier League from a fitness and conditioning point of view.
