Charlton Athletic are reportedly interested in signing Crewe Alexandra’s Perry Ng.

The 23-year-old right back has impressed for the Railwaymen this term, assisting five and scoring once in 32 games as Crewe seek promotion from League Two.

According to teamTALK, a host of clubs have been monitoring Ng whose contract runs until next year.

Nottingham Forest, Derby and Bristol have all reported an interested with the defender who can play across the backline.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer spoke of the importance of identifying targets to strengthen his squad, even with the transfer window shut for another four months.

“You’re always trying to plan for the future, always,” he said.

“We were doing that before the January transfer window, we’re always trying to improve.

“We need to improve.

“If we want to be an established Championship side we have to improve, that’s obvious, because everybody else is.

“Huddersfield brought four or five players in January, and they’re in and around us.

“If you don’t you get caught.

“If we want to stay int this division, progress and go higher you have to strengthen.”

Ng responded to transfer speculation linking him with a host of Championship clubs.

“You hear a lot of rumours but I hate hearing it, I’d rather not know.

“I’m contracted to Crewe for another two years so unless something big changes I’ll still be here.

“If I wasn’t happy here I wouldn’t have signed in the first place. I’m happy if I stay it doesn’t bother me at all, I’m very relaxed about it.”
