Charlton are in a relegation battle.
Following their 3-1 defeat at Stoke City on the weekend, the Addicks are now just one place and four points above the bottom three.
Early season promise has long faded and fans are waking up to the reality to what will surely be a nervy run in.
Ben Purrington’s strike shortly before the break at the Bet365 Stadium papered over the cracks of a very poor Charlton display.
James McClean, Tom Ince and Nick Powell’s strikes for the Potters giving them a deserved three points which saw them leapfrog The Valley outfit and away from danger.
Charlton’s away form is cause for concern.
With seven defeats in their last eight away games and no win on the road since August, even the most optimistic Charlton fan will be hard pushed to predict a win at high flying Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
Lee Bowyer pulled no punches as he analysed the Stoke defeat, similar to many Charlton fans who took to social media to voice their ‘concerns.’
Not going to lie that was hard to watch & now we have a long journey home. But guess what we’ll be back for the next one. In Bowyer we trust! #cafc 🔴⚪️👊

Really disappointing performance today but we really need to start picking up some points away from home, because it's going to put pressure on us to win our home matches. Still, in Bowyer I trust. COYR #cafc

Awful performance today. Wrong team selection and formation and team out battled through out. Had no creativity at all. Bowyer should it changed it at HT. On you today Lee #cafc

Down we go. Bang in trouble. #cafc

Before anyone gets upset again, I’m not saying bowyer out. I’m literally saying it how it is. We were playing fourth from bottom, not top of the league. #cafc

Bowyer has no excuse today, he’s responsible for getting the team up for the fight & making the right tactical decisions.
— Tegsy (@tegsyjack) February 8, 2020
The next 3 games will show us how he responds & if he can turn it around.
Admittedly it doesn’t help when the players are shit or having off days!! #cafc
Love bowyer but defo gets it wrong a lot of the time for me don’t care if I get hate but we should be doing better than we are in these games it’s a results business and the table doesn’t lie #cafc

You know what charlton fans sometimes the manager makes a mistake and today was one of them ,team selection wise , let hope Lee learns from it. Remember this season is all about staying up . We’ll have setbacks like today let’s it panic #cafc

Lee need's to start being honest in interviews... outline where we are crap and speak truth... senior players are back in the team now.... it's time to act or we will get relegated. #cafc

What an awful performance from #cafc today. Shocking, not even second best. Massive improvement needed on Tuesday!
— Jason Fey (@fey_jason) February 8, 2020
#cafc need to sort it out quick! Today sounds like it has been awful and our form is now free fall. Fourth bottom as it stands...starting to panic now!
— Matthew Ring (@Matthew_Ring) February 8, 2020
Poor from players and management today but we go again Tuesday night. Onwards and upwards! #cafc
— Stuart Court (@st73u) February 8, 2020
There’s no defending that performance today, very very poor. No fight or passion shown at all. Stoke wanted it more, every one of their players chasing every ball down. Equally shocking performance from the officials. #cafc

Poor, poor performance today. We are mired in a relegation battle now. Uninspiring transfer window hasn't helped - but hey, we could have the nicest training ground in league one #cafc

So poor 🙈 #Cafc
— Talia (@missvalleyfloyd) February 8, 2020
Don't think we can play as poor as that again second half so that's one positive we can take. #cafc
— Nigel McCarthy (@nigel_mccarthy) February 8, 2020
No need to sugar coat things anymore, we are in a relegation battle.
— Sam Wheatland (@SWheatlandCAFC) February 8, 2020
Our performances and recent form have been shocking. Something needs to change fast. Our squad looks good now and that team sheet today was the strongest ive seen all season. Wake up, we could go down. #cafc
Hopefully we put on a better show against Blackburn next weekend, I for one don't ever want playing league one football again!!!! #cafc
