Andre Green admitted that his unsuccessful loan spell at Preston earlier in the season has driven him to succeed at Charlton.

Having made making just four league outings in six months at Deepdale, the 21-year-old is keen to get back to playing regularly and impressing at The Valley, and that's exactly what he's doing.

The attacker has notched twice in four league games for the Addicks since arriving on loan from Aston Villa at the start of the month, earning praise from manager Lee Bowyer for how well he’s settled in.

“I’m happy with how I started and hopefully I can get more goals, it’s what I came here to do,” Green said.

“The club’s known for bringing through great players and hopefully I can improve my game, but I’m happy with how I’ve started.”

Bowyer deployed Green alongside Lyle Taylor in a front two against Barnsley on Saturday, scoring what turned to out the be the winner as the Addicks held off a valiant second half Tykes display to win 2-1.

“I want to score goals,” he added.

“First half of the season I missed out on that scoring feeling.

“So anywhere in the front three I’m happy with.

“At Villa I was a winger, but when I was with Bowyer I said I’m happy to play anywhere, especially up top.

“I think I’m turning into a confident striker.”

The Taylor Effect

Green doubled the Addicks lead on the stroke of half time against Barnsley, adding to Taylor’s opener.

Despite only being at the club for a month, the loanee can already see the importance of his strike partner at the club, and how crucial it was for the club not to lose him during the transfer window.

“It’ massive (Lyle staying), you can see how much he brings to the team.

“I think me and him up top, it brings me more confidence knowing he’s next to me and I think he’s going to score many more goals, so I think it’s a big boost.”

Victory over Barnsley keeps the Addick’s noses four points above the relegation spots, and the significance of the win wasn’t lost on the new Charlton man, despite there still being 48 points to play for.

“It was a six pointer, we knew that all week.

“So the pressure was on us and them, we both had to win.

“We knew what the game meant to us, and what we needed to do to climb up the table. Hopefully we can go on a run now.”

Green and Charlton travel to Stoke next Saturday, a side who sit just two points below the Addicks in the table.
