Millwall’s display in their 2-0 win over Reading on Saturday served as evidence that they are genuine play-off contenders according to Murray Wallace.

Goals from Matt Smith and Jon Dadi Bodvrasson gave the dominant Lions victory over a poor Reading side at The Den, keeping them just a point outside the top six.

Wallace, who was singled out for praise by his manager Gary Rowett in the performance, believes the current squad are capable of gate crashing the play-off spots.

“The way we played today is a sign of what a good team we are and I don’t see why not,” he replied when asked about promotion.

“It’s always nice to get some praise but the most important thing is the win and the clean sheet.

“I feel great, obviously playing left back and wing back, it’s a bit of a different side of my game, with more attacks, I’m adjusting a little to that, but I always a put in a shift, and I think today everything clicked.

“But the performance was really good in general from the whole team.”

Millwall have long been famed for their defence, but surprisingly their clean sheet against Reading was the first time this season they registered back to back shut outs this season.

Impressively for Millwall, it was the first game in seven the Royals were stopped from finding the back of the net.

“They have been in form, and have dangerous players, so to limit them is a massive positive for us,” Wallace continued.

“A couple of clean sheets maybe we’ve been guilty of conceding soft goal set pieces, which we pride ourselves on, so it’s obviously a good sign if we’ve stopped them.

One player who made his Millwall bow in the victory was Ryan Woods who arrived on loan from Stoke City.

The midfielder was thrust into the Lions starting line-up by Rowett and Wallace reveals it was an easy integration into the squad for the former Brentford man.

“When you get a player of Ryan’s quality coming in you want to make them feel as welcome as possible,” he said.

“You could see how well he gelled in, and obviously we want to make it as welcome as possible, the couple of days he’s had he’s enjoyed it.

“It’s normal to be nervous, a new environment, new players, different characters, but I don’t think we’ve got any big egos here making anyone uncomfortable.”
