Charlton’s injury crisis is coming to an end for Lee Bowyer, touch wood.

The Addick’s boss revealed that ahead of his side’s trip to Preston on Saturday that a number of first team players are back in contention for the fixture.

Bowyer has made do with a squad decimated by injuries in the opening half of the season, with as many as 15 first team players in the treatment room.

Speaking on Thursday morning however, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“There’s Jonny (Williams) who came back into the fold with Tomer (Hemed) and Jake (Forster-Caskey) against West Brom,” he said.

“And adding to that Erhun Oztumer has trained this week, Josh (Cullen – ligament damage) has trained with us for the first time today (Thursday), he’s been doing stuff outside so he could be in the squad as well.

News Shopper:

“Chuks (Aneke) will play for the under23s.

“Fitness wise he’s too far off it to play at Preston but there’s no point him hanging back here for the weekend and not play so he might as well play for them.

“Macauley (Bonne) will be out for a for a few weeks with a hamstring.

“Lyle (Taylor) is still out injured but he’s outside running.

“We don’t know how long until he’s back, but maybe next week.”
