Charlton’s Tom Lockyer is claiming his side’s equaliser in the 2-2 West Brom draw even if Sky Sports took it away from him.

The broadcasters gave the goal on 76 minutes as a Sam Johnstone own goal, with the ball going off the Baggies goalkeeper after parrying Lockyer's initial header on to the post.

Lockyer’s wait for his first goal in Charlton colours goes on, although the Welsh defender celebrated like it was his.

“I’m not sure who I pissed off at Sky,” he joked.

“From my point of view I thought it was over the line before he saved it.

“I’m not sure the goalie will want it so I’m not sure why they(Sky) do that.

“I should’ve had a few more this season but it’s not fell for me in a Charlton shirt at the minute.

“Obviously I’ll be delighted if it goes down as my goal but I know it sounds cliché but the team getting a point and moving on in the right direction was the main thing.”

The point was well deserved for Lee Bowyer’s men after coming from behind twice with Kenneth Zahore and a Naby Sarr own goal putting the visitors ahead after Josh Davison’s goal momentarily levelled the tie.

Now five points above the relegation places the former Bristol Rovers man felt their young side held their own against an experienced West Brom outift.

“First of all they’re a very good side,” he said.

“They quality they had on the pitch and what they were able to bring on was PL quality.

“Our plan was to match them, and we done that for large parts of the game.

“Two sloppy goals, the first one was my fault, I hold my hands up, but if we cut them goals out they were limited to long shots, I thought we worked well.”

Lockyer feels the side have turned a corner with the result, and that with the new energy that has come in with new owner East Street Investments along with players returning from injury, the Addicks can begin to look up the table.

“In this league there will be Premier League quality, and I think we can match that.

“The positive thing for us is we had Jonny (Williams), Tomer (Hemed) and Jake (Forster-Caskey) back in the action today.

“We’ve been told there’ll be signing coming in to strengthen the squad as well, so there’ll be competition for places, and the with bodies back we’ll have more chances of winning these games.

“Start of the season people got carried away with the results, but we always knew it wouldn’t be like that, the injury crisis is the worst I’ve ever seen.

“It’s not an excuse but it doesn’t help, but when the bodies do come back we’ll be looking to go toe to toe with any team.”
