Despite crashing out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle with defeat at home to West Brom there were positives for Lee Bowyer as he saw the return of Jonny Williams and Tomer Hemed.

Both player came off the bench with 20 and 30 minutes to go respectively as Bowyer looks to re-integrate them into his threadbare squad.

Speaking after Kenneth Zohore’s first half strike sent the Baggies through to the Fourth Round at The Valley, Bowyer gave an update on his squad’s injury news as he turns his attention to league duties next Saturday, coincidentally against West Brom.

“I could’ve given Jonny more but why take a risk,” he aid of the Welshman who’s been sidelined with a knee injury since October.

“It’s very good to get those minute, they’re precious.

“Tomer too (hamstring strain), they’ve been out a while so we’ve got to slowly build them up, we’ve got 20 games to go and the most important thing is we are doing the right thing in the long run.

Taylor News

News Shopper:

Lyle Taylor was another absent from the cup competition after feeling a hamstring during the Addicks last outing at Swansea on January 2nd.

The forward has missed the majority of the season so far with ligament damage before making a brief return in December until pulling up last week.

“He’ll be out for two to three weeks,” Bowyer confirmed.

“He’ll only be missing one game, next weeks, he might be back for Preston, if not that then he’ll definitely be back the one after that.”

There was good news surrounding Josh Cullen and Sam Field too, as both are making progress as they look to return from ankle and knee injuries respectively.

“Josh Cullen will be back in and around training on Monday to do the last bits of rehab which is a big boost.

“Sam Field isn’t far away.

“Slowly but surely they’ll be coming back.

“We are doing well without all those players, but start putting those players back in and we’ll be ok.”
