Charlton boss Lee Bowyer will soon decide on whether to offer Joe Ledley a longer-term deal at the club.

The Wales international, 32, signed a month-long contract last month but has not featured since debuting in the 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on December 7.

Charlton host West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup this Sunday (January 5), but with the transfer window open and Ledley's contract set to expire next Monday a decision is expected soon.

Bowyer said: “I think it [the deal] finishes on January 6. I think it was for a month.

“At the moment, I'm not sure about the situation. Again, I've just been concentrating on the football side of things so that's something that we'll have to look at.”

Despite having the benefit of experience on the bench, Bowyer opted to keep the majority of his youngsters on in the second half of their 1-0 defeat at Swansea City.

Academy graduates Ben Dempsey and Josh Davison, both 20, were handed their full Championship debuts while James Vennings, who is also 20, was introduced later on for 19-year-old Albie Morgan.

After a battling display in the second half, he hailed their performances as “outstanding”.

Bowyer added: “They didn’t hide. If they gave the ball away then they wanted the ball again. That’s what you need to do. They [the young players] are going to make mistakes, they’re human beings, but they just kept going and going and kept trying to make something happen, and pushing and pushing.

“I can’t fault them in any way and I thought they were outstanding.”
