Charlton deserved to leave the field to a chorus of boos after Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield according to Darren Pratley.

Matty Daly’s late strike condemned Lee Bowyer’s side to a fourth straight defeat and extended their winless run to nine matches as they slip towards the bottom three.

Despite an injury crisis at the club midfielder Pratley believes the fans are entitled to voice their opinions regarding the Addick’s current form after setting high standards early in the campaign.

“We got booed and rightly so, we weren’t good enough especially being at home,” he said.

“I’ve always said the fans pay their money so they can say what they want as long as they respect us when we’re leaving or coming in, that’s fair enough.

“They thought it was right to boo and fair enough, they pay their money.

“We didn’t moan when we were getting praised and patted on the back and getting told how good we are so we can’t moan when we are getting told how we aren’t good enough.”

No Excuses

The 34-year-old has been a shining light Charlton’s poor run, who’s experience at Bolton and Swansea will be vital to end a winless run.

Giving an honest assessment of Tuesday’s defeat Pratley called upon unity between the players and the fans to stop the slide.

“We don’t want to make excuses because the side’s we’ve been putting out have been good enough to get something from games, but it’s been tough.

“We have to keep going.

“We’ve had good times here at this club in the last 18 months.

“Since I’ve been here it’s been nice and rosey but there’s two sides to football.

“This is where you have to stick together.

“The last couple of games we haven’t created too much or tested the keeper, especially at home. “Last year we were creating a lot but at the moment it not happening in front of goal.

“Only positive is we have another game on Friday.

“Fans and us need to stick together.

“The Championship is a tough league, teams lose a lot of games.

“It’s about sticking together, we can’t start blaming anyone, ‘his fault, their fault,’ we just need to make sure we are focussed and try and stop the rot.”
