Injury-ravaged Charlton were dealt another major blow as they surrendered a two-goal lead at home to Neil Harris’ Cardiff City.

Conor Gallagher and Jonathan Leko found the target to put the hosts two up in what was a dominant first-half display.

Former Millwall boss Harris looked set to suffer defeat in his first game in charge, only for Nathaniel Mendez-Laing to cut into the deficit before Lee Tomlin completed the turnaround in a pulsating second 45 minutes.

Josh Cullen added to Charlton’s injury woes when he was forced off on through injury before being replaced with Albie Morgan.

Deji Oshilaja replaced Naby Sarr, and Oztumer was drafted in for the suspended Darren Pratley, as Lee Bowyer made two changes following the 2-1 defeat to Millwall. Pratley had to serve an automatic one-match ban after picking up his fifth yellow card at The Den.

Bowyer could only name six out of seven substitutes for the visit of Harris’ Cardiff. Morgan, who was recalled from a loan spell at Ebbsfleet United, was among them.

The Bluebirds, who entered the break on the back of a 1-0 defeat to rivals Bristol City, could have led after just 10 minutes.

Callum Paterson ruffled the side-netting after Mendez-Laing split two defenders to find him in the box with his cross.

Although Charlton struggled to create inroads within the opposition half early on, they went ahead after 12 minutes when Gallagher burst into the box to finish after Leko couldn't put away Bonne's cross.

Cardiff searched for the equaliser through Paterson and Gary Madine but the hosts began to dominate the first half and engineer more scoring chances.

They were rewarded four minutes before the break when Leko finished well from Oztumer’s succinct through ball to round off a dangerous counter-attack.

Harris’ side was given a lifeline minutes into the restart when Ben Purrington brought Paterson down inside the box, only for Phillips to deny Junior Hoilett’s spot-kick.

But the visitors cut into the deficit to set up a potential comeback when Mendez-Laing smashed home from close in after Leandro Bacuna threatened with a long-range effort.

Charlton, who are already missing several key players, were dealt another injury blow when Cullen was taken off on a stretcher. The recalled Morgan was brought on in his place.

The game became end-to-end as it wore on, with Cardiff carving out chances to get back into the game. Madine’s header found the roof of the net following an Aden Flint flick-on.

They eventually completed the comeback on 72 minutes when Joe Bennett teed up substitute Lee Tomlin to fire beyond Phillips, angling into the bottom left corner of the net.

Having thrown away a two-goal lead, Charlton were determined to not settle for a draw and pushed the Bluebirds for a third through seven minutes of added time.

Oztumer curled over the bar, and Bonne would see an effort roll wide of the target before being thwarted at close range by Lee Peltier. But they had to settle the point in the end.
