Neither Welling United nor Dulwich Hamlet did enough to win a tightly fought derby.

Nathan Green had a chance for Welling early on when cutting in from the left but Charlie Grainger made a great save. He then got up quickly to scramble across goal and block Aaron Cosgrave’s follow up.

Ade Yusuff had a shot blocked for Dulwich but Welling were soon back on the attack and won a free kick midway inside the Dulwich half. Sanchez Ming delivered and Ejiro Okosieme rose well but could not get power in his header and Grainger saved comfortably.

Ben Dempsey got on the end of a header out from a corner but sliced his shot well wide before Montel Agyemang was invited to shoot at the other end but his Grainger was in the right place for a straight-forward save.

Korrey Henry then had Richard Orlu twisting and turning but his shot took a deflection and went wide.

Henry then held it up superbly waiting for reinforcements. Eventually, Agyemang provided the option and the Wings’ midfielder went for a curler but put it beyond the far post.

Ming then went on a marauding run and fizzed in a low shot but Grainger got down well to make a good save.

Another patient build up allowed Welling to get it across to Henry but he shot beyond the far post.

However, the last chance of the half fell to the visitors and they came desperately close to going ahead. Jeffrey Monakana sent in a cross and Danny Mills rose but saw his header come back off the angle of bar and post.

After the break Anthony Cook had a free kick saved before he drew another good one out of Grainger when meeting Green’s cross with a stretching header.

Green let fly from twenty yards and it looked like it was going into the top corner but swerved away at the last moment

At the other end Dulwich broke well but Yusuff rushed his shot and it swerved well wide.

Gavin Rose, the Dulwich manager, then made a double change and his time started to stretch the Wings defence.

A big goalmouth scramble needed desperate defending but Welling were still relieved when it fell to Mills but he was caught offside.

Dominic Vose then picked out Lewis White but Rob Swaine got back to make a brilliant block then Dan Wilks was left short but timed his charge out of the area and tackle superbly to thwart Nyren Clunis.

Agyemang created space for himself cleverly to get a shot away but it flew wide with Grainger a spectator but Dulwich finished the game on the front foot. A long cross picked out White but he shot wide of the near post.

Then Mills climbed high to reach White’s cross but his header was deflected over. When the corner was delivered, Wilks was unable to hold onto it and there was another almighty scramble before the Wings custodian was able to fall onto the loose ball.

In injury time, Welling had one last effort when Theo Widdrington tried his luck from thirty-five yards but it flew well over and the final whistle ended the game shortly afterwards.

On Saturday Welling are again at home when they entertain Braintree Town.
