Crystal Palace captain Luka Milivojevic believes their 2-0 defeat to Leicester City was decided by one incident.

Caglar Soyuncu’s header from a corner shortly before the hour proved decisive said Milivojevic, who thought his side didn’t deserve to lose.

Patrick van Aanholt failed to clear James Maddison's delivery, flicking it on to the defender who having lost his marker Gary Cahill adjusted well to head home from close range.

“One small situation decided the game,” he said.

“After that corner the game changed.

“It was bad positioning for the corner.

"It was just one corner, but small details in games like this decide games.”

Jamie Vardy struck at the death when Palace searched in vain for an equaliser, giving a score line that flattered the visitors.

“I don’t think they deserved it,” Milivojevic continued.

“It was a very even game, we had a few chances in the first half and they had the one.

“I didn’t expect us to lose today.

“We were confident after the draw at Arsenal last weekend and for 80 minutes we played a good game today.

“The last ten minutes we risked a lot, but that’s football at the top level.”

Tough run ahead

Defeat for Palace drops them to ninth, while Leicester stay above Chelsea in third on goal difference, largely thanks by their 9-0 hammering of Southampton last weekend.

Leicester have impressed under Rodgers this season and although Milivojevic admitted they have improved, he still believes they are way behind the top two.

“The difference is massive, in my opinion they are different to the team we beat 4-1 at theirs last season but no one is near Manchester City, maybe just Liverpool.”

Palace have two tough fixtures next, with is a trip to local rivals Chelsea on Saturday before league leaders Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park on the 23rd.

“I didn’t expect to lose points today, the next two games are tough.

“Chelsea are in good form, and Liverpool are in great form, but we believe we can pick up points.”
