Preston’s Patrick Bauer sent a heartfelt message to the Charlton fans after his side’s 1-0 win at The Valley.

The former Addick who left for Deepdale after four years in SE7 thanked the Charlton faithful for the warm reception they gave him on Sunday.

Despite Preston taking the victory thanks to Paul Gallagher’s penalty on the hour, the home fans gave the German defender a huge applause at full time for his services, including the unforgettable goal at Wembley to promote them to the Championship.

“Charlton, thank you a lot for the warm reception today,” he posted on Twitter.

“Glad to see that you had a good start to the season!

“Was nice to meet some familiar faces again!

“Wishing you all the best for the rest of the season.”

Bought from Maritimo in 2015, Bauer made 130 appearances for the Addicks and is seen as a hero in South East London following his Wembley strike, and for that alone he will go down in Charlton history.

Charlton fans were keen to show their appreciation for the 27-year-old.
