Here’s how the Charlton players rated in their 1-0 defeat to Preston North End

Dillon Philips 7

Made a superb stop to deny Tom Barkhuizen at the back post in the first half and late on to keep Charlton in the game. Handled the high balls well all game.

Ben Purrington 6

Charlton’s best attacking option and was the source of most that went well going forward. Wing back or full-back he’s a real asset. Missed a glorious chance late on.

Chris Solly 5

Doesn’t venture forward like Purrington but did his defensive duties.

Naby Sarr 4

Struggled against a lively Preston front line in the opening half and it was no surprise when he was hooked at the break.

Tom Lockyer 6

Will know he was in a battle with Jayden Stockley. Made a number of interceptions with both feet and head but his distribution could’ve been better.

Jason Pearce 4

Struggled to deal with the physical Stockley and was guilty of finding himself out of position which led to conceding a penalty.

Darren Pratley 6

Unlucky to be pinged for a foul when on the attack but the energy brings to the Charlton midfield is priceless.

Beram Kayal 4

Fans will have expected more from the Brighton man. Relieved pressure well from the back but his delivery was below average on more than one occasion.

Josh Cullen 5

Quiet game from the usually busy midfielder. Couldn’t dictate the pace of the game like he usually can against a strong physical Preston midfield.

Conor Gallagher 7

Another great display from the Chelsea man. Box to box and improving each game. Went closest to scoring in the first half but saw his headed effort drift wide.

Macauley Bonne 5

Very little service to the front man meant he found it hard going. Won his fair share in the aerial battle with Pat Bauer but was so isolated the second balls were going straight to the visitors.

SUBS:

Jonathan Leko 5

On at the break but olly showed his quality in glimpses.

Chuks Aneke 6

Added a more physical threat to the attack which was effective. Maybe should've got on the end of Cullen's cross.
