Eyebrows were raised when Sky Sports’ Team of The Month was announced for October.

But not Lee Bowyer’s.

He’s seen it all before.

Last season when the EFL announced its League One Team of The Season it didn't include Charlton’s 21-goal forward Lyle Taylor, influential midfielder Josh Cullen or any of the backline that conceded just 11 goals in their final 21 games.

So when Sky Sports unveiled it’s October starting XI, the Addicks boss wasn’t the least bit surprised not to see any of his squad named.

“It doesn’t bother me, the most important thing is us and what we do,” he said nonchalantly.

“I’m not surprised, it’s the same as last season.

“Lyle. with 21 goals and 11 assists and he didn’t get in Team of The Year?! You’re kidding me?!

“It’s up to them, let them pick who they want, it’s their opinion and they’re entitled to their opinion.

“I know my players are good and give me everything and that’s all I ask and all I care about.

“Winning games.

“if we keep winning games it doesn’t bother me if they’re not in team of the week, month, year, because I’m happy.”

Addicks fans weren’t so level-headed with two glaring omissions from the XI.

Two names that have courted attention over the last month has been those of Macauley Bonne and Conor Gallagher.

Bonne, who stepped up two divisions in the summer has hit a purple patch since getting his first start for the Addicks at the back end of September.

In Taylor’s absence, Bonne has taken his chance and netted four goals in five starts this month, marking an identical return to that of Preston’s Tom Barkhuizen who made the side.

Bonne netted against West Brom, Bristol City, Derby, Fulham and Leeds (in September), sides who will be competing at the top end of the division this season.

Aleksander Mitrovic fills the second striker spot having scored six times this month, although it has to be said his efforts have been at teams at the lower end of the league, a hat-trick against Luton and a brace at Reading.

Gallagher Omission

Chelsea’s 19-year-old loanee has taken the league by storm with Bowyer running out of superlatives for the midfielder.

His form earned him a call-up to the England U21 squad in October, but surprisingly not a place in Sky Sports outift.

Instead opting for Eberechi Eze (QPR), Jed Wallace(Millwall), Izzy Brown (Luton Town), and Matheus Pereira(West Brom).
