Charlton’s 2-1 defeat at Bristol City will serve as lesson in being more street wise when closing out games says Lee Bowyer.

The Addicks chief made the claim after his side fell to Josh Brownhill’s 98th minute winner at Ashton Gate after leading their hosts.

With Famara Diedhiou equalising and then getting sent off, Bowyers men failed to slow play down, or cynically foul Kasey Palmer who evaded three challenges on the halfway line before sending in a ball which Brownhill despatched.

“Someone said we could’ve made a foul when they were breaking but they’re just too honest, there are lot of youngsters out there” Bowyer said after admitting to being in the dressing room when the winner went in.

“Our honesty at times can cost us, I’m not sure that’s the right thing to say but it’s the truth because other players get touched go down, not tonight but in general, they feel a knock and fall on the floor.

“My players are too honest, they don’t do that, and it cost us tonight because we should’ve fouled.

“It comes with experience, Conor (Gallagher) is a 19-year-old kid, this is his first loan.

“Josh Cullen is young, they need to learn if someone goes past you what to do

“Because Darren Pratley would’ve fouled, because of experience.

“They’re young and inexperienced, but they’ll learn, that’s how you learn, when it keeps happening to you, you think this is what you’re meant to do.

“It happens at the top all the time, we need to learn how to see out games.”
