Roy Hodgson won’t stop Crystal Palace fans getting carried away following their positive start to the season.

Just two points behind Saturday’s visitors Manchester City and sitting above Manchester United and Tottenham in sixth place, Eagles fans have begun to dream.

Hodgson admits he won’t let himself get swept away with the positive energy around SE25, but certainly won’t pour cold water on the fans positivity.

“We shouldn’t stop people getting carried away!” he said.

“Enjoy the moment.

“We have a loyal fan group who are excellent supporters home and away.

“They’ve followed us for many years, they’re used to ups and downs, so I certainly wouldn’t begrudge them at their moment if they started to dream.

“But obviously they understand where we are, the limitations and the size of squad.

“As long as they can count on that fact, then we won’t dampen the good moment they’re in.”

Palace have won four of their opening eight games this season, including their previous two fixtures against Norwich and West Ham.

Hodgson remains grounded however, knowing the table could look very difficult in five games time, especially as they welcome the five teams that sit above them in the next five fixtures.

“It’s been a good start,” he continued.

“All teams that have amassed points aren’t basking in the glory, us included.

“We are fully aware it can change.

“The only time we can take credit is at the end of the of season.

“There’s an awful lot of football to be played.

“That said we you can only do what you can do with the games in front of you, and 14 points is a good haul of points, but with a tough run of games coming up we’ll be hard stretched to keep that level of points coming.”
