Jason Pearce is available for selection for Leeds United’s visit to Charlton but Biram Kayal is expected to be side-lined for a few weeks.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer revealed that Pearce is fully fit after spending last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Wigan on the bench having had a tight groin all week.

Naby Sarr deputised alongside Tom Lockyer at the DW Stadium, but former Leeds captain Pearce is expected to resume his duties in the heart of defence.

“He was available last week, but we have to be careful as he hardly trained,” Bowyer said.

“He’s trained fully train this week so he’s good for selection, but we’ll be careful with him as we have fixtures on Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday, that’s a tough week coming up.

“Some players can do it, some can’t.

“I need to be mindful of.”

There wasn’t such good news for Brighton’s on-loan midfielder Kayal who has been ruled out with a groin injury himself.

“Kayal will be out for a couple of weeks.

“He went for a scan and there’s something wrong with his groin.

“He had to have an injection, and it’ll be a couple of weeks before he’s out training again.”

Kayal joins Lyle Taylor in the treatment room with the talisman still sporting a knee brace for an injury picked up on international duty.

It’s expected he’ll be out for a number of weeks.

Bowyer also revealed that right back Adam Matthews completed 90 minutes midweek for the under 23s but isn’t expected to be involved until next week.

“He’s coming along nicely, created two goals mid-week, he’s getting fitter and stronger which is good for us as we’ve only got Chris Solly there and he needs some help.”
