Jed Wallace believes Millwall’s first away win this season could boost their Championship campaign.

It took until New Year’s Day just gone, or 13 attempts, for the Lions to achieve the feat last term when they defeated then-bottom club Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Despite the maiden win, they won just three of their next 11 but managed to keep their heads above water to avoid relegation.

This season their only away victory has come at the Hawthorns, when they dumped West Bromwich Albion out of the Carabao Cup, while having drawn two and lost one of their first three in the league.

Wallace, who admitted their away form has troubled the team in recent years, hopes victory away to Blackburn Rovers can continue what he believes has been a positive start.

He told the club’s website: “It took us 11 games to get seven points last season, so to get past that already is positive.

“We have seven points from nine at home as well, which is something we really wanted to improve on last season, and we’ve been unlucky at times away from home. For example, at Middlesbrough when we should have won the game.

“We’ve had some tough games but we’ve got some good results, and there’s plenty more to come.”

Blackburn themselves are looking to improve on a slow start to their campaign, having notched just seven points from their opening six.

But several of those fixtures came against promotion-chasing sides – such as Fulham, Cardiff City and West Brom – with a more “favourable” set of games to come following the international break.

Wallace is wary of Rovers’ eagerness to get back on track and admitted Ewood Park is a tough venue to win in at the best of times.

He added: “First and foremost, we’ll have to go there and be difficult to beat. The sooner we can get the away victory off our back – that has bothered us for the last couple of years – it will really push us on.”
