Tomer Hemed has vowed to ‘fight’ for Charlton after making his debut against Brentford last weekend.

The Israeli penned a one-year deal with the Addicks from Brighton which was finally given the green-light by the EFL allowing him to make his bow at The Valley off the bench in their 1-0 win.

Charlton have surprised many with their unbeaten start and sit third in the Championship before they travel to Reading on Saturday.

The 32-year-old forward who scored seven times in a loan spell at QPR in the second tier last season knows the rigours of Championship football and how difficult it can be, but he still believes there’s an outside chance Charlton can maintain their fine start.

"The team was not talking about promotion at the start of the season and suddenly people are thinking about it," Hemed told Y-Net.

"If we see that we have a chance of reaching the playoffs we'll fight for it.

“From my personal point of view I'll be hoping to score and help the team."

Hemed arrived with his compatriot and Brighton teammate Biram Kayal to SE7, albeit Kayal is on a season loan.

The move however is one he hopes will benefit all parties.

"It became clear Brighton's new manager Graham Potter was looking for replacements for us.

"Once we understood that, we started looking for alternatives.

“It worked out that we've both come together to the same club and that has made the move much easier and more fun."

Despite having just 45 minutes against Brentford under his belt this season, Hemed was selected for Israel's crucial Euro 2020 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Slovenia, an including the striker was overjoyed with.

"I missed the previous games through injury and the team has done a great job.

“I hope that we can carry on the good work."
