Charlton’s Conor Gallagher possesses one vital trait which makes the youngster stand out to manager Lee Bowyer.

On-loan from Chelsea, the 19-year-old has earned rave reviews from anyone who’s been following The Valley outfit this season.

With three goals in his first five professional starts, Gallagher has taken to life in the Championship with relative ease, and his manage is the latest to comment on the Chelsea starlet.

“It’s very simple, the game is simple as a midfielder,” Bowyer said after his side’s gritty 1-0 win over Brentford where Gallagher’s goal was the difference.

“You’re one of either three types of midfielder, an attacking one, a defensive one, or an all-round one.

“And for me he’s an all-round midfielder.

“He’s impressed me obviously because he takes on the instructions you give him.

“All I say to him is you have to do the dirty side of the game.

“Play against that man, track him, but when you win it, you don’t want him to track you.

“Keep making runs, yes it hurts at times but keep getting in the box and things will drop for you, things will happen and you will score goals.”

News Shopper:

Evidence of Gallagher taking on board his manager and his staff’s input was clear at the Valley on Saturday where he finished off Jonny Williams through pass with aplomb.

“These were clips of analysis we showed him (Conor) yesterday, how wide their (Brentford) defence was, they left gaps between the centre backs at times.

“Thankfully Jonny won the ball, Conor ran off his midfielder and made a great finish.

“He’s a very good player, very young, on his first loan, but has good potential if he keeps taking on board the positive stuff we give him.”
