Gary Cahill has joined Crystal Palace on a two-year deal the club have announced.

The 33-year-old free agent joins the Eagles after seven and a half seasons with the Chelsea.

Speaking at his unveiling, the 61-cap England international spoke of his reasons for joining the Selhurst Park outfit over a host of fellow Premiership clubs who were in the chase for his signature.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge," he told CPFC.

"There are some very exciting, talented players here.

"I think it’s a good opportunity for me to continue my career in the Premier League, and to play in a good, exciting team.

"I feel like I’m in great shape and whoever I play for, I’d like to think that I give it 110% and leave everything out there - so hopefully that will be good enough for the manager, my team-mates and also the fans.”

Boss's View

Roy Hodgson spoke glowingly of the two time Premier League, two time FA Cup, Champions League and League Cup winner, referencing their time in the international set-up of knoking first hand of what the former Aston Villa and Bolton man brings to the club.

“He’s a fantastic footballer who brings a wealth of international and Premier League experience.

"I know that he is going to be a valuable asset and I’m so happy to be working with him again.

"I’m delighted that Gary has joined us."
