Charlton have signed Conor Gallagher from Chelsea on a season-long loan.

The midfielder, 19, becomes Lee Bowyer's eighth signing of the summer and his first loan recruit

Gallagher who came through the Chelsea Youth system played 28 games for the under23's last season, scoring five, was named the academy's Player of the Year last year.

Wearing the number-11 shirt, Gallagher will travel with the squad to Blackburn on Saturday for the seasons opener.

“I’m buzzing!" Gallagher told CAFC Official

"I’m very happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.

"I wanted to play in the Championship and Charlton is a great club to come to.

"I just want to play as much as possible and the opportunity is there to do that here.”

The Addicks fought off competition from Swansea and Wigan for the youngster's signature.

Bowyer said he was 'over the moon' to land the midfiedler who can play centrally or on the right midfield, citing the work he and his staff did with previous signings Krystian Bieleik and Josh Cullen as a factor in the signing.

"Clubs like Chelsea recognise what we have done previously with the young midfielders we had last season and this will be no different," he said.

"He’s an exciting young player.

"He can put his foot in, create, score and has a bit of everything so I’m over the moon to have him through the door.

"I’d like to thank them for the part they played in Conor coming to us.”
