Lee Bowyer is keen to bring in “one or two” new signings next week.

The Charlton boss is determined to add to his ranks ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign following the arrivals Tom Lockyer, Macauley Bonne and Chuks Aneke.

Whilst Bowyer seems pleased with the club’s transfer activity in recent weeks he admits there is still more work to do, and is targeting up to eight new players before the transfer window shuts.

He said: “We’ll look to bring in one or two [new signings] next week. We know we need to bring in seven or eight, so there’s no getting away from that fact, but we’re working hard every single day.

“No doubt I’ll go home from here and then I’ll be watching players, and I’ll speak to Steve Gallen [Charlton’s head of recruitment] and see if there have been any developments on things that we’re inquiring about.

“But we’ll get there. We know what we need to strengthen the squad and I’m not taking anything away from the lads that we have here because they’re great as well.

“We have to improve the squad, it’s as simple as that. We’ll get there.”

It comes as all of his new arrivals played a part in Charlton’s comfortable friendly win against Welling United.

But it was the club’s youngsters, Abraham Odoh and Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu, who shone as they both scored the only goals of the game.

Lockyer and Bonne both played the opening 45 minutes before Aneke starred in the second half with last year’s leading scorer Lyle Taylor.

Bowyer said most of the new signings will be loanees but has focused on bringing in permanent additions to begin with.

Asked about Charlton’s activirty in the loan market, he added: “We’re obviously going to be bringing in probably five loans. Not too many players that are loans go out this early.

“You get the odd one or two but we’ve been concentrating on more of the permanent side of things in the beginning, and the loans side will happen later on.

“We’ll be looking to definitely be doing some good business in the loan market.”

Charlton begin their new Championship campaign with a trip to Blackburn Rovers on August 3.
