Millwall after Fenerbahce's goalkeeping legend Volkan Demirel

With the club deciding not to offer the shot stopper a new contract, Turkish website Fotospor have reported that Neil Harris’ Millwall are keen to land the star.

Demirel, 37, is seen as a Fenerbahce legend in Turkey after playing at the European giants since 2002/03, amassing over 500 appearances.

Millwall are in the market for two goalkeepers this summer after the release of Jordan Archer and the sale of Dave Martin to West Ham Untied earlier this week.

With 62 international caps, five Super Lig titles, two Turkish Cups, and a Turkish Super Cup, the Lions would surely be getting a highly experienced man between the posts.

Harris admitted that a signing a goalkeeper was near, but would not name the player in question, when speaking to the South London Press.

“We are in talks (with two) – a long way down the line with one,” he said.

“I’m relatively positive there will be an outcome on that one soon.

“Our club financially is in a good position.

“We don’t pay huge wages and huge transfer fees, but we are a club which is not in FFP [financial fair play] danger territory, like many others in the league. Stability can have its advantages.”
