Sunderland suffered the agony of a seventh straight defeat at Wembley Stadium as Charlton’s late winner kept them back in League One for another season.
After their heartbreaking 2-1 loss in injury time, courtesy of a Patrick Bauer goal with just five seconds left, here’s how Black Cats fans reacted.
Best team won. Best fans won. Charlton weren’t great, but we were awfuk. Friendliest set of fans as well. Good luck next year. Hopefully we’ll see you soon, without Jack Ross

Good luck to you in the Championship. Best team won on the day and over the season. 3rd place you should have gone up

Hardly ever dominated a match this season. We were lucky to even get in the play offs to be fair. Luton, Barnsley, Charlton and Pompey all rolled teams over at times, we just got over the line in loads of matches. Big improvement needed next season. Need to go for it!! #safc

Still can't believe yesterday, that's the lowest I've felt as a fan ever. But can't argue that Charlton deserved it, we were appalling and had no game plan. Is a change needed? I've no idea #safc

That's twice we've been leading at Wembley and lost. I'm not particularly #RossIn or #RossOut but his words post FT were well off. He watch a different game? We had one shot on target, the lads never turned up. Charlton weren't great but we allowed them to play their game. #SAFC

P. S Fair play Charlton 👏 #safc #EFLPlayOffs
Just like to congratulate @CAFCofficial on a great result yesterday, I was totally gutted at the final whistle but then I remembered ... I’d had a great day with my Son and 76,000 fans who had something in common... Love for their team. Good luck next season #Safc #Charlton ❤️ pic.twitter.com/LIRiiaMAnx

Woke up, still hurts. Honestly feel so disheartened atm. Really hit me when we got back to the stadium at 11:45 last night. Looking around seeing everyone making their way home from the sol, it was so somber and quiet. Honestly don’t know what the future holds for #safc

Just watched the highlights, Charlton fully deserved the win we were absolutely shocking yesterday. I would still keep Jack Ross think he deserves another season #safc

Still a tough one to take yesterday. Charlton deserved of their promotion. #safc completely second best in all areas. We were gifted a goal and didn’t capitalise. Had one half decent effort on goal the entire game. Not good enough. Big changes needed starting with the manager.

People can defend Ross all they like but would he have taken that Charlton side up? When they coukdnt even fill a bench back in August? I think we all know the answer #safc
