Ben Purrington is ‘100% open’ about staying at Charlton beyond the summer.

The 23-year-old loanee returns to parent club Rotherham after Sunday’s League One Play-off Final against Sunderland at Wembley, but the former Plymouth man has not ruled out extending his stay at The Valley.

“I’ve not had the conversation yet but obviously I would 100% be open to staying,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of the second half of the season here and luckily we’ve done very well.

“After Sunday that’s when a few conversations will start happening, but I’m just focusing on Sunday now and that’s the priority, then after that everything will fall in to place.”

Having spent the first half of the season at the lower end of the league table, Purrington arrived at The Valley to aid their promotion push.

Having played 18 games for the Addicks, it’s safe to say he’s re-paid the faith Lee Bowyer put in the man to solve the left back birth that was labelled a ‘problem position’ after Lewis Page’s long-term absence through injury.

One of the reasons Purrington joined Charlton was Bowyer, but if Sunday turns out to eb his last game for the club, he returns to Rotherham a better player.

“I’ve definitely improved,” he said.

“Every day, everything he says, minutes before a game, it’s all constructive and you learn little things all the time.

“But the main thing is that he wants the best from everyone in training every day, and that makes you a better player in itself.

“He’s been great to me and the team.”
