Charlton are in the best position they’ve been in under Lee Bowyer according to manager.

With his men taking a slender 2-1 advantage in to the play-off semi-final second leg against Doncaster on Friday, the Addicks boss claimed the club has never been in such a buoyant place.

“We’re in a very good mood,” beamed Bowyer whose side are just 90 minutes from a first outing at the new Wembley.

“It’s the best since I’ve been here by a million miles.

“When I first came in it was a bit difficult, the atmosphere wasn’t what it should be, now we’ve sold-out The Valley.

“That’s not happened since 2012, for me that’s a massive achievement and shows how far we’ve come in a short space of time.

“One of the things I wanted to do was get The Valley full again, get everyone back and enjoy being part of this journey we are going on.

“And it’s happening, I’m delighted.”

Charlton’s fortunes have been transformed under the former Leeds and Newcastle player, guiding them to the brink of a play-off final at Wembley.

In their way stand a Doncaster side who clinched a play-off spot on the final day of the season and who were offered a lifeline from the first leg after a last-minute goal from Matty Blair at the Keepmoat Stadium last Sunday.

Bowyer however remained confident of seeing the tie through such is their pedigree at The Valley.

“We’re in a good position especially with our home record this season, but we have to respect Doncaster.

“We just have to be professional and have the right attitude and not take our foot of the pedal, which I’ve no doubt will not happen because the group we have, have been exceptional all season.

“I don’t have to keep my players focussed because they know the reward, I’ve drummed it in to them all season what we want to achieve, and they know they are so close to getting one step closer so I won’t have to remind them.”
