Charlton’s momentum going in to the League One play-offs means little according to Doncaster manager Grant McCann.

McCann’s claims come as his side look to plot a way past an in-form Addicks outfit who closed the season with eight wins from ten, finishing third in the league.

Donny finished with five wins in their last 15 games to seal the final play-off place but their manager believes that momentum is irrelevant.

“I don’t think it matters when you come into the play-offs,” McCann told DoncasterFreePress.

“Momentum is a good thing and it can be used in any way you want.

“It’s two games over two legs and it comes down to whoever fancies it, whoever is good enough or whoever is better on the day is going to win it.

“All in all, we've got there now and I don't think it matters how far we finished behind third place or anything like that.

“Whatever has happened to this point is not forgotten about but we reset ourselves.

“We've got two games against Charlton to try to get to Wembley.”

Despite Charlton having the upper hand in the form table, McCann remained positive with his side’s showings as they closed the season out with a 2-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium over Coventry to ensure a play-off spot.

“If you look back on our last two games we've gone to Oxford, a very good team playing well and we could have won the game (they drew 2-2).

“And then we had a good, disciplined performance against Coventry that we needed to do to get ourselves into sixth place.

“Looking back on it, we set ourselves a target of 20 points from the last ten games and we finished with 17, three short of what we expected.”

With a 2-0 win at The Valley in November and a 1-1 draw at Doncaster it was Charlton who came out on top on the whole when the sides met during the season.

But in John Marquis they have a goal scorer who, similar to Charlton’s Lyle Taylor, knows where the back of the net is, equalling Taylor’s 21 goals for the season.
