Neil Harris revealed why Jed Wallace and Aiden O’Brien were not involved in the last home game of the season.

Both attackers were notable absentees from the 2-1 Bristol City defeat at The Den that brought an end to a disappointing season in Bermondsey.

Wallace, along with goals scorer Lee Gregory, has been a shining light for Harris this campaign as the Lions narrowly avoided relegation.

“We’ve had to carry people over the line, they’ve had to have injections or tablets to get to the end of the season, but we can leave them out now,” said Harris.

“Jed’s been struggling and not training with any real intensity, but he’s been insistent on not being left out because he’s a winner.

“He knew how important it was to get the points.

“He did his calf in the warm up on the weekend and he’s been carrying a knee injury which is being investigated at the moment, but he took enough tablets to get through the game on Saturday.

“He obviously didn’t play against Bristol and he certainly won’t play on Sunday and we’ll try and get him fit for next season.”

Harris also shed light on Irish international O’Brien, who’s Millwall season looks to be finished.

“He may be able to go away with Ireland in the summer.

“He certainly would’ve been involved in these last three games but he’s got a haematoma in his quad which is quite dangerous.”

Honest Assessment

With both unavailable for Tuesday eventful 2-1 defeat, Harris named three teenagers on the bench before revealing his disappointment in some of his squad members.

“I will be ruthless this summer, I know exactly what I want to do,” Harris said in an extraordinary post-match interview.

“The level of performance from some individuals this year has been nowhere near good enough and I’m the guy on the sideline who has to take the brunt of it.

“I always back my players but they’ve let me down at times this year individually and I won’t accept that moving forward.

“Players have told me that they never want to play for this football club again, they won’t be at this club.”
