The ‘Coalition Against Roland Duchâtelet’ took their argument to the Belgian Embassy to discuss the actions of the Charlton owner.

CARD went to the embassy in Belgravia on April 17 to discuss their concerns with Counsellor Alain Leroy about the activities of the Belgian.

In a statement released by the supporters group, it was said that Counsellor Leroy heard how Duchatelet’s actions were harming the club and furthered calls for him to sell-up.

“No one is in any doubt that Duchâtelet needs to go, including Duchâtelet himself,” said the statement.

“It’s almost a year-and-a-half since he said he was selling up and he is still there despite numerous interested parties.

“It’s high time he set a realistic price and sold the club, which would be a relief to everyone concerned.”

News Shopper:

The statement admitted off-field matters weren’t reflected in results as Lee Bowyer’s side have reached the League One play-offs for a second successive season.

The opposition to Duchatelet’s ownership boils down to off-field matters which among other things include ‘unpaid bonuses’ and a ‘bewildering rant’ asking the English Football League buy the club from him.

Councillor Leroy, although unable to intervene with Club matters, offered to report back to the government officials, the regional authorities and the police in Belgium.

Sale Developments

In a fans forum held on Thursday (April 26) attended by fans and Lieven De Turck who is representing the club in takeover talks, there was optimism a sale could be drawing near.

Notes from the forum indicated a sale is in its 'final stages' between an International party and Duchatelet.

The notes read:

“LDT said that as mentioned previously Roland Duchatelet (RD) has met the fifth party.

“Since the last meeting he has received an offer and agreed a price.

“The party have begun due diligence and are coming to the final stages of that process.

“The next steps after that are with the lawyers and sorting the contract.

“He said it is clear the party have the money and a previous experience in English football.

"LDT said he has had conversations with other parties but no NDAs have been signed.

"He said in his opinion RD will not own the club next season.

"He said that all three parties want to complete the deal before the end of June so they can prepare for next season.”
