Both managers were in agreement that the game was won through set-pieces.

Palace’s 3-2 win at The Emirates was a result of poor Arsenal defending but largely down to the superiority of Roy Hodgson’s men at the set-piece.

Christian Benteke and James McArthur’s strikes came from wicked pin-point Luka Milivojevic deliveries, but at all free-kicks and corners the Eagles looked threatening.

“We knew set pieces would be a weapon,” said Hodgson.

“We’ve got the right sort of players to cause problem.

“The right person for delivery, and the right players to attack the ball.

“It’s always a definite possibility in terms of scoring goals.”

Arsenal manager Unai Emery echoed his counterpart’s views admitting defeat was down to the two key moments.

“I’m frustrated because it was a big opportunity," said Emery.

“Firstly, they have good players.

“Their defence played very well.

“But set pieces we didn’t work, we weren’t strong like we’ve been all season.

“The result came through those two situations.

“If we were better at set pieces, we could win this match.

“We didn’t find the best situation to take more chances.”

The Gunners remain in the top four after Spurs and Manchester United both lost this weekend, but the Arsenal boss admitted defeat by palace was a chance missed.

“We had a big opportunity in matches before today, but we’ve lost a lot of points at key moments this season.

“Today we lost a big opportunity.”
