Charlton’s 11-game unbeaten run came to an end with a 2-1 defeat to Oxford United on Friday.

Goals from Curtis Nelson and Luke Garbutt cancelled out Lyle Taylor’s fifth-minute penalty.

If second-placed Barnsley manage to win later on today then it is likely to all but end the Addicks’ automatic promotion hopes.

Oxford’s Simon Eastwood and Charlton’s Chris Solly were shown straight red cards in a fiery second-half.

Here is how News Shopper rated Charlton’s players…

Dillon Phillips - 5 - Beaten by a powerful volley and a stunning free-kick - he could do nothing about the goals.

Anfernee Dijksteel - 5 - Lost possession too many times and his crossing could have been much better at times.

Patrick Bauer - 4 - An uncharacteristically shaky display by one of League One’s most consistent defenders. He completely lost Nelson for Oxford’s equaliser and struggled to deal with Jerome Sinclair’s pace and power.

Jason Pearce - 7 - Coming in for Naby Sarr, who dropped to the bench, Charlton’s skipper made some crucial blocks and clearances.

Chris Solly - 3 - Playing on the left after Ben Purrington fell ill before kick-off, Solly didn't look as comfortable as he has in that position in the past. On first look, you can’t have too many complaints with his red card.

Krystian Bielik - 6 - Cheaply gave away the free-kick, which led to Garbutt’s goal. Tried too much, which cost his side the ball numerous times, in the second-half when Charlton were a man up.

Josh Cullen - 6 - Gave Charlton’s midfield its usual energy but his set-piece delivery was poor.

Joe Aribo - 8 - Charlton’s best player on the day. Won the penalty, which Taylor converted, with a tricky run into the box. He carried the ball so well. Man of the match.

Ben Reeves - 4 - Failed to get into the game and was hooked off at half-time. Tariqe Fosu and Mark Marshall will be wondering what they have to do to make a matchday squad now.

Lyle Taylor - 7 - Took his penalty well to bag his 22nd goal of the season. Chased down a loose ball which saw Eastwood handle outside of his area and receive a red card.

Jonny Williams - 5 - Had plenty of the ball, but barely made anything happen. Missed a good chance, albeit from a tight angle, to bring the Addicks level in the first-half.

Subs:

Josh Parker - 4

George Lapslie - 5
