Charlton boss Lee Bowyer thinks his side would be sitting on more than the 70 points they currently have if the club had done one thing.

Despite being just one point behind last season’s haul with seven games to go, the Addicks manager believes they would’ve trumped that total had they kept Karlan Grant.

Grant was Charlton’s top scorer before now-relegated Premier League side Huddersfield swooped for the striker at the start of the year.

“It’s so obvious,” said Bowyer.

“Since the turn of the year we’ve only lost one, but we’ve drawn games which we would’ve won if we kept Karlan.

“I’m satisfied but I think we could’ve had more points.”

Since Grant departed in a reported £2 million deal, Charlton have drawn four in an eight-game unbeaten run - a return that could’ve been improved had Grant still been at the club according to Bowyer.

“There was a time before January we were winning or losing, we didn’t draw.

“Now we draw games I believe we would’ve won, it’s disappointing in a way because we were so close to second spot.”

Big Loss

Grant has adapted to life in the top flight remarkably well considering he was playing in League Two with Crawley Town less than 12 month ago.

Scoring three times in seven appearances for the Terriers in the top flight, the 21-year-old joins the list of players who have scored at every level in the Football League.

“He’s been a big loss, if he was in an around the building we would’ve won more games.

“The games we’ve drawn we probably would’ve won them, I believe that.

“I’m happy, but I want more, and the time I accept where we are is never going to happen.

“I’ll keep pushing to the end of the season.”
