Here's how we rated Crystal Palace's players in their defeat to Tottenham.

Vicente Guaita

Could do nothing for the opening goal and, other than that, had little to do despite Spurs dominating possession. Looked reluctant to come for crosses which has been his Achilles heel. Surprising as when he did come he claimed convincingly. Greet save from Lucas Moura late on. 7

Patrick van Aanholt

Defended solidly throughout and offered width on the rare occasions Palace got forward. Maybe could’ve stood Son up for the goal but it’d be cruel to place blame on the Dutchman. Caught offside twice which would’ve frustrated Hodgson. 6

James Tomkins

Would get into any side outside the top six. Handled Kane well and snuffed out multiple crosses. Intercepted and headed everything. Standout defender in a team of defenders. 8

Martin Kelly

Stepped in for Scott Dann and followed his defensive partner’s lead. Didn’t put a foot wrong in a game where he was under the cosh for large parts. 7

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Was beaten a couple of times early on by Danny Rose but found his tackling feet soon after. The biggest of stages do not faze him. Made a great tackle from Son late on, so hard to get past. 8

James McArthur

Most industrious (as ever) of the midfield three. Kept Eriksen quiet for large spells and once again showed why Hodgson keeps choosing him. Very reliable in the middle and always does the defensive job Hodgson sets him out to do. 7

Jeffrey Schlupp

Like his other midfielders it was an ‘all hands on deck’ display in a defensive unit. Had an early chance that he blazed over early on. Ran tirelessly but in a side that had little ball it was about chasing white jerseys. 7

Luka Milivojevic

Textbook stuff from the captain until his error led to the opener. Dawdled in possession allowing Eriksen to pick his pocket and set up son. Harsh to have the final touch for the goal but shouldn’t have lost possession. 6

Cheikhou Kouyate

Effective game without too many touches. Kept shape well in a side chosen to contain a possession heavy Spurs side. Created little but stopped a lot. 7

Wilfried Zaha

Very little opportunity to showcase his talent. Zero service in a backs-to-the-wall effort. Looked frustrated. Came alive in the last 10 minutes, dazzle and looked threatening but the game was already lost. 7

Michy Batshuayi

Fed off scraps and what he did get sent didn’t stick. One effort of note went wide early in the second half but other than that can’t remember the Belgian touching the ball. 6

SUBS

Andros Townsend

Palace picked it up a gear upon his introduction, but too little time to make an impact. 6

Christian Benteke

Missed a golden chance which would’ve made the last ten minutes interesting. 6
